About our Conductor - Maestro Michael O'Dea
Maestro Michael O’Dea is the current Musical Director and Conductor of Fisher’s Ghost Youth Orchestra.
Michael is an Educational Leader and qualified Music Teacher with more than 30 years experience developing and leading performance and co-curricular music programs in a school setting.
Michael has inspired, led and guided change and growth by developing musical performances, overseeing performance programs, and providing musical direction to students from Kindergarten through to Year 12 over his years teaching at leading schools across Sydney.
Michael is also an accomplished musician who has played Violin as a key member of numerous orchestras and in solo concerto performances in Australia, the UK and Austria.
Some of Michael’s notable achievements as an educational leader, music director and teacher have included:
> Leading IPSHA Junior School programs and performances.
> Developing an integrated music program, using the Violin and Cello to teach essential music skills to students in Kindergarten and Years 1 and 2, and overseeing Chamber music ensembles to extend exceptional musicians and scholars from Years 4 to 12.
> Conducting performances by the Senior Chamber Orchestra, Junior School Chamber Orchestra, Elite Speech Day Performances and PLC Sydney Productions
> Directing students from Years 7 to 12 in various performances such as A Midsummer Nights Dream, Les Misrables and The Addams Family.
> Producing annual “Speech Day” performances at the Sydney Opera House.
> Commissioning works from musicians for performances at significant school and community events.
> Managing up to 30 students during school orchestral tours in Hawaii, Singapore and the United Kingdom as well as Brisbane and the Gold Coast
